I choose and you say yes or no

Straight from the constitution

The President may also appoint judges, ambassadors, consuls, ministers and other officers with the advice and consent of the Senate. By law, however, Congress may allow the President, heads of executive departments, or the courts to appoint inferior officials.

Connection with Constitution

The name of this article is "Kagan to join Supreme Court Saturday". The author is Josh Gerstein. This article talks of how President Barack Obama earlier this year appointed new Supreme Court Justice Member Elena Kagan. On this note there was still the vote between the Senates. As the Senates pondered the thought they ended the vote of 63 yays and 37 nays. It was now offical that Elena Kagan was the new Supreme Court Justice. We all hope that they made a great choice in picking her. I stand by the choice that Barack has made because I believe in him.

Health Care Anyone?

Straight from the Constitution

Clause one is a "vesting clause," similar to other clauses in Articles One and Three, but it vests the power to execute the instructions of Congress, which has the exclusive power to make laws; "To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof." The important distinction between the vesting clause in Article I and this Vesting Clause is that this one is Plenary (i.e., it implies the power the executive to fall in line with what other "executives" around the world at the time could do) whereas the power vested in Article I is subject to limits to be outlined in later sections.

Connection with Consitution

This article is called "Obama, allies ready health care blitz". The authors are Sarah Kliff and Jennifer Haberkorn. Obama has recently signed a new law giving all U.S. citizens affordable health care. What this means is your health care will be enough so that you can pay for it according to your income and family size. This article states that "This month’s new restrictions include some of the health care overhaul’s most consumer-friendly and popular changes, such as no co-pays for preventive care in new insurance plans and bans on denying coverage to children and taking away coverage from anyone when they get sick." I think this law that Obama and Congress has passed is great because it will help lots of people finaialcially.

The name of this article is "Moving on the Middle Marriage" There is currently a big debate in the world on whether there should be Gay Marriage or no Gay Marriage. It is thought that the supreme court will have to decide on this case eventually. The authors of this article is Lanae Erickson and Jon Cowan in this article it states " Third, we need to continue to make progress along the spectrum of relationship recognition, from domestic partnerships to civil unions to marriage. Many states are not yet ready to have the marriage debate. But in the past decade, the idea of providing legal recognition to gay couples has gone from controversial to commonplace, extending far beyond the coasts to states like Nevada, Colorado and Wisconsin. We’ve reached a national consensus: Three-quarters of Americans support some form of legal recognition for gay couples. We should capitalize on that consensus to enact domestic partnership and civil union laws, as both a means of shifting policy and politics." From this paragraph from this article I believe the authors are supporting gay marriage. Me however believes that gay marriage shouldn't be allowed. I say this becasue president Obama agrees with me , and since I christian and our sacred text is the bible I obey it since God made it, and it includes nothing of gay marriages.

The name of this article is "Two Notable Impeachment Cases"This article is about how forty-one yrs ago George G. Barndard, a Supreme Court Justice , was convicted by the Senate and Court of Appeals of charges in articles of impeachment by the Assembly. In this article it states "It was a notable case, and included features with a significant bearing upon the proceedings against Mr. Sulzer." Barndard was impeached because he abused his powers as a Supreme Court Justice. This ties in with the powers of the Legislative branch because they have the power to impeach as Congress which they do and succeed in which makes them the most powerful Branch.

Connection with the Constitution

The name of this Article is the Impeachment Trial of President William Clinton. In 1999, for only the second time in United States history, there was an impeachment trial of a President. He first had an apporach of an affair with Pamela Jones an Arkansas state employee. In this article it states "Clinton made a series of increasingly aggressive moves, culminating in his dropping his pants exposing an erection--and then asking Jones to "kiss it." Jones claimed that she stood and told the Governor, "I'm not that kind of girl." As she left, Clinton stopped her by the door and said, "You're a smart girl, let's keep this between ourselves"(Linder)."The trial makes people wonder about the distinction between public integrity and private integrity. Bill Clinton had an affair with another worker named Monica Lewinsky that worked in his department that was also very younger than him. I think Bill should be frowned upon and his affair is dissapointing to be done by such a high ranked "monarch" or president. At first Bill Clinton denied the relationship she wanted with him but he finally gave in to temptation. The house of representatives then voted to impeach Clinton. The Senate then voted and it passed. So the case went to court and it ended Clinton being found not guilty. This trial ties in with the Legislative Branch because Congress impeached him, in order to start this trial and that's one of their major powers.

Who really has power?

Straight from constitution

Constitution Article I, Section 8; says to give all the power to Congress. Congress has the exclusive power to legislate, to make laws and in addition to the enumerated powers it has all other powers vested in the government by the Constitution.

Connection with Constitution

This article is called "Congress passes farm bill over Bush veto". Congress passed a $300 billion farm bill over President Bush's veto for a second time, the original bill passed.
This article states "The Senate voted 80-14 to approve the measure over Bush's objections, following a 317-109 vote in the House of Representatives. Both votes were well above the two-thirds majority needed to override the veto, which Bush delivered Wednesday morning.
Congress overrode an earlier veto of the farm bill last month, even though lawmakers had discovered that 34 pages were missing in the version originally sent to the White House. In spiking the latest version, Bush said he objected to its continued subsidies for the wealthy and its use of budget gimmicks to hide a $20 billion increase in spending." After it was passed it was noted that two-thirds of the $300 billion was use to help nutrition programs such as food stamps. This ties in with the Legislative Branch because Congress overpower a President's veto which means they have more power over the president.

Which state has power?

Tenth Amendment – Powers of States and people.
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Connection:

Every state has the power to control their laws and not all states have the same driving license age. Pennsylvania's miniumum age is 16, while New Jersey miniumum age is 17. Each state has power and when voting for the president but in Electoral votes sum states how more power to control the presisdency than others. For instance Californa's electoral votes are much higher than Rhode Island. California has 55 electoral votes compared to Rhode Island's 4 electoral votes. This ties in with the tenth amendment in the constitution because each state has it's own power and has it's benifits to society and no state is exactly any other state.
